BLACKSTONE SUPPORTS VOLUNTARY PRE-K PROGRAM IN FLORIDA
Blackstone (www.blackstoneonline.com), one of the nation’s leading providers of electronic prepaid products and services announced their commitment of funds to the Parents for the Readiness in Education of Kids Committee (PRE-K).
In his Universal Pre-K Whitepaper, “Pre-Kindergarten Education: A Matter of Right”, Miami-Dade Mayor, Alex Penelas states, “Research tells us that a child’s most formative years, the years that a child absorbs the most information, is when that child is 0-4 years old, and not when he or she is already enrolled in formal school. Pre-kindergarten is not baby-sitting. Pre-kindergarten is helping young minds to learn at a time in their lives when they hunger for learning, when they crave attention, when every cell is a knowledge-absorbing sponge.”
The goal of PRE-K is to win voter support, through petition, for a Constitutional amendment requiring a high quality, voluntary pre-kindergarten learning opportunity for all Florida 4-year olds. To qualify, the PRE-K committee must collect 10% of the signatures of the electorate, or about 700,000 signatures, prior to the November 2002 ballot.
According to Clare Morgan, Blackstone’s director of corporate communications, “We are pleased to provide financial assistance for a cause that believes, as Blackstone does, that children are our greatest gift and hope for the future. In addition to our contribution of $25,000, we plan to actively assist the Mayor and the Committee in obtaining the necessary signatures to ensure that the referendum appears on the November ballot.”
Blackstone has rapidly become one of the country’s largest providers of prepaid telecommunications products and services with over 300,000 retail locations nationwide. Established and headquartered in Miami, Florida since 1995, Blackstone is privately owned, and managed by a team of executives experienced in payment processing, networking, information services, retailing and prepaid telecommunications. Today, Blackstone is successfully merging two industries, prepaid telecommunications and electronic transactions, into one point-of-sale (POS) terminal to the benefit of its clients and end-users around the world.
