BLACKSTONE CELEBRATES OFFICIAL GROUNDBREAKING
Blackstone (www.blackstoneonline.com), one of the nation’s leading providers of prepaid products and services held the official groundbreaking ceremony for its new state-of-the-art corporate headquarters on Wednesday, March 14, 2001. Miami-Dade Mayor, Alex Penelas was the guest of honor and spoke to over 150 guests.
During the ceremony, Mayor Penelas commended Blackstone for choosing to expand in Miami-Dade County versus relocating the company to another county. He also recognized Blackstone president and chief executive officer, Luis Arias for his progressive thinking in designing a facility that improved the quality of life for its employees. At the conclusion of his speech, Mayor Penelas presented Arias with an official proclamation declaring Wednesday, March 14, 2001, Blackstone Day.
According to Arias, “Miami was the logical choice for our expansion based on two key factors, the ease of doing business within the US and with Latin America, plus, the quality of life we enjoy in Miami.”
Setting precedence for its well-planned, all-inclusive design, Blackstone’s new TransWorld Center will offer its employees an optimal work environment. The 273,000 square foot facility has 150,000 square feet dedicated to offices and 123,000 to warehousing and shipping.
· Approximately 1000 newly created jobs
· Areas of opportunity include: sales, technical/installation, data entry, accounting, customer service and management information systems
· Day Care Facility
· Health Club
· 24-Hour Cafeteria
Situated just a few blocks from our current offices, Blackstone’s new home will be located within its 56-mile fiber sonnet ring. Built to withstand a Category 5 hurricane with winds up to 150 miles per hour, the unlimited generator capacity and cellular antennas will provide uninterrupted communications with the outside world during the event of a natural disaster.
The facility will be equipped with the latest audio-visual equipment, teleconferencing capabilities, computer hook-ups, individual HVAC controls, high fidelity audio systems, and in-house mechanical and electrical support.
Mike Acton, Blackstone general manager, states, "In today’s economy, qualified employees are hard to find; and keeping them is of tremendous importance. Studies show that although salary is an important issue, quality of life is equally, if not more important. For this reason, we are very excited about our new facility.”
Blackstone is one of the country’s largest providers of prepaid telecommunications products and services with over 300,000 retail locations nationwide. Today, Blackstone has developed one of the most innovative point-of-sale systems available in the marketplace. By integrating the processing of all major credit cards (MasterCard, Visa, American Express & Discover Card) and ATM/bank cards with the sale of prepaid cellular, prepaid calling cards and other prepaid services into one, easy-to-use POS terminal, Blackstone POS, is revolutionizing the electronic transaction industry.
The new corporate headquarters will house all Blackstone staff, excluding the POS team. POS will reside in the current 36,000 headquarter facility, which is being transformed into fully equipped, fully staffed housing for the POS department, including Blackstone POS and Blackstone ISP servers and routers, as well as a team of network and software engineers. The TransWorld Center will also serve as a Research & Development center for future products and services.
